The objective here is to have a quick summary covering a range of buddies from early to late game in that order.

    Early Game: Original Story Playthrough

    Bahl OIII / Grace OIII:
Cost 1 stamina to obtain and they were designed for newer players.

    Skullsplitter/Bewitching Bow:
These series or weapons are valid from the easiest of early game all the way to extreme late game. The feature a flat stat bonus and a stacking attack/magic attack bonus. They are extremely easy to obtain and level. The can be obtained as early as chapter 6.

Healing Rod: Another early to extreme late game buddy. This one provides a healing event which can eliminate the need to even have a healer on the team or make up for a weak healer. The easiest and earliest method to obtain them is through the Phoenix 1 Eidolon being carried by a 100 luck coop teams. Co-op unlocks at chapter 4.

Shadowy Rod: This is an equip which has strong mid to early late game function. This equip buddy increases the unit's hp 20%. Leveling simply increases the defense and magic defense stat buff, so no coins or metal minions are required. It can be obtained through the King Orbling Eidolon being carried by a 100 luck coop team. Co-op unlocks at chapter 4.

King Orbling: At the same time as collecting shadowy rods, you can also obtain the King Orbling buddy. this buddy is a chain, spell casting buddy which starts at 30% and tier 2 magic and tier 0.7 weapon damage. The downside to this buddy is the fact that it is SS and very difficult for a new player to max level, but the ability to have a chainable tier 2.7 buddy as early as chapter 4 is very powerful even if it's only a 30% activation rate. Late game, they fall off, so do not heavily invest into these buddies.

Trading Post: Things to Look for

Here's a list of buddies to keep an eye out which may become available on the trading post. Character Exclusives will be covered at the bottom. Since this is a watch list, I will not going into heavy detail.

Timeless Hourglass: Equip +2 Control Time

High Tier Healing: Each word is a different one of the S/SS healing buddies.

    Unicorn / Panda: Equip Luck

    Kiss Bottle: Negotiator 1x

    White Orbling: Equip Revive

    Musical Chord: Chain Frequency 10%

Martial Mace: Attack equals Magic Attack equip

Peta Weapons: Click similar on the link for a more complete list.

Mid Game: Base Level Events (Not recodes)

Dragon's Fan / King's Fan: Both of these units will greatly help clear the mirrors in metal zone 6 and 7. King's fan is used in metal zone 6 if Seiryu is not obtained yet. Dragon's fan is used in metal zone 7 if Leviathan^ is not obtained yet. Sadly these buddies do not have an easy method to obtain them. The only way currently is to pull them from the pacts. If you collect the companion tickets, you may obtain one during a 10/2 pull event.

Mog: This Final Fantasy Mobius path D event drop has proven to be one of the best buddies in the game. It boost magic attack and magic defense 10%. Bewitching Bow only buffs magic attack. The magic defense bonus can make all the difference in the world to your mages living through strong attacks.

Tonberry: This little guy in the Final Fantasy Mobius event deserves a huge shout out for the potential it can create. The effect is only useful in one dungeon, but it allows a player to reach end game content. At first, -20% fixed damage seems terrible until you understand that the Primordial Dragon King event is focused on fixed damage. Tonberry allows you to beat this dungeon with low class units opening to door to farmable teams in Resplendent Dragon King and Inexorable Dragon King.

Ochu: The last Final Fantasy Mobius drop is mostly used to skill boost units faster thanks to being a healing phase with a 30% emit rate.

Celestial Envoy: The Last Story's secret route drop. This is the farmable version of Mog for physical units offering a tier 2 chain area 1 sword damage skill.

Samatha: A drop from the Battle Champs Collab event. It offers 7% attack and magic attack as a self buff. Most will sell it for coins though.

Demon's Chronicle: Used for skill boosting.

Late Game: Recoded Events, Exclusives and 100 Luck Teams

    Holy Dragon / Axion Dragon:
Chainable area only tier 3.5 buddies which deal 2x damage to 2 different elements. Obtained from the Dragon King series. In theory, farmable to all players thanks to Tonberry.

Primordial Dragon Z: 2x xp gains equip. 1% normal drop rate in Inexorable Dragon King.

Mizell O / Peryna OII / Amina OII / Kraken OII: Kinetic trap disarmers. In order, trading post, RDK 100 luck, 8-bit Hiso 3 100 luck, and Kraken Kino 3 100 luck.

Mechanic Kino O: Stat buff for machines. More for PVP.

Scarlet OIII / Voilet OIII: Impair defense from 100 luck PDK. Impair magic defense from 100 luck RDK.

The below are available from the Trading Post and worth noting:
    A'merpact O:
    Icebind area can be useful

Kem O / Korin O: Weapon series buff effects.

    Senala O / Violet O / Scarlet O: Team luck buff

Bahl O: True damage at level 1 might be abusive.

Echo O: Mini Gego +2 Control Time All chainable

    I'll finish linking later.

I find having one or two Earth Sword and Sorcerer's Shield are helpful for weekly speed run events.

The low tier healing shouldnt be underestimated. White Pendant evolves to Healing Wand which evolves to Healing Rod. Healing Rod has one of the higher SB% proc rates as well, maybe third best under Demon's and Ochu. It also gives you Giga Heal in chain, so when you have 6 that you can equip on each member, you become almost completely unkillable in many fights (Eidolon and boss, any boss which cant one shot you) provided that you pincer everyone each turn. Getting 2 or 3 early in the game is EXTREMELY abusable, as most characters even physical have a good enough Mdamage rating to provide ample healing.

And do tell how and why someone should go through collecting and evolving the low healing items. Phoenix 1 is available chapter 4 and drops the b rank version. The c and d are much harder to obtain.

Phoenix I isn't the easiest of stages, certainly not intended to be beaten at Ch4 with a l100 team (the B version is a luck chest-only drop I believe.) It's possible to simply pull some from CoF where there are B and C versions a-plenty, they are not very expensive to upgrade and actually do their job quite well as far as additional healing in the early game (no need to evolve them to Rod version until you are using it for SB.)

Player 2 and 3 can carry a phoenix 1 new player easier than they can get the coins and materials to evolve a d to b.

In the very post that you quoted, I state that you dont need to evolve it, which is my entire point. If youre only using it for healing in the early game, any version will do and lower are cheaper to level, there is no noticeable difference on small early game health pools.

    End Game: Farming and Improving

Here's a list of buddies to look for, if you have nothing else to do. Farm them for coins, for quick boss kills and for your collection. To get them, play different events or farm Companion Tickets on different locations to pull companions, when specific chances are increased.

Z class otomos for selling: All "O II" otomos from any event and sell them for 12.500 Coins each. Some "O" otomos can also be sold for 50.000 Coins or for 10.000 Coins.
    • Daily Quests with 100L Team
    • Different Events (Dragons, Kinos, ...) with 100L Team
    • Co-op Events with 100L Team

Z class otomos for keeping: http://terrabattle.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Z_companion
    • Pull from Companions of Truth
    • Buy from Trading Post
    • Different Events (Dragons, Kinos, ...) with 100L Team

Complete your Compendium and max all Otomos you have: http://terrabattle.wikia.com/wiki/Companions#Companion_Compendium
    • Depends on what you have, but basically pull from Companions of Truth or Companions of Fellowship
Think for the Future or save time
    • Keep at least 6 copies of each important buddy
    • Get more buddies save time while switching them for different teams (SB)
